# Carbone Agent Plugin

Agentic document automation in one install: the Carbone Skill and MCP server for your AI assistant

## Overview

The Carbone Agent Plugin turns your AI assistant into a document generation tool. Describe the document you need: the assistant designs the template, fills it with your data and returns the finished PDF, Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, in the same conversation.

| Included | What you gain |
| --- | --- |
| [Carbone Skill](/documentation/developer/ai/skills.md) | Design and edit templates on the first try: the assistant writes valid Carbone tags, loops, conditions and formatters, and checks each template before rendering. |
| [Carbone MCP server](/documentation/developer/ai/mcp.md) | The assistant renders, converts and saves templates to your Carbone library, ready for your application to render through the [Carbone API](/documentation/developer/http-api/generate-reports.md). |

Your assistant doesn't support plugins? Install the [MCP server](/documentation/developer/ai/mcp.md) and the [Skill](/documentation/developer/ai/skills.md) separately.

## Installation

### Claude (Desktop & claude.ai)

**Before you start:** turn on **Code execution and file creation** in **Settings → Capabilities**, so the skill can run. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner turns it on in **Organization settings → Capabilities**, and decides whether members can add a marketplace.

**Install:**

1. Open **Customize → Plugins**, click **Add**, then **Add marketplace**.
2. Enter `carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin`, then install **Carbone**.

**Sign in:** open the plugin's **Connectors** tab, add the Carbone connector, then click **Connect**. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector for the organization: if you can't add it, ask an Owner.

**Update:** in **Customize → Plugins**, select **Check for updates**, or turn on **Sync automatically**.

### Claude Code

**Install:**

```bash
/plugin marketplace add carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
/plugin install carbone@carbone
```

**Sign in:** run `/mcp`, select `carbone` and choose **Authenticate**.

**Update:** run `claude plugin update carbone@carbone`, or turn on auto-update for the `carbone` marketplace in `/plugin`.

### OpenAI Codex

**Install:**

```bash
codex plugin marketplace add carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
codex plugin add carbone@carbone
```

**Sign in:** Codex asks you during the install.

**Update:** automatic when Codex starts, or run `codex plugin marketplace upgrade carbone`.

### Cursor

**Install for a team** (Teams and Enterprise plans, by an admin):

1. In the Cursor Dashboard, open **Plugins & MCPs → Team Marketplaces** and click **Add Marketplace**.
2. Choose **Import from Repo** and enter `https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin`.
3. Add Carbone to the marketplace and choose how it installs: members install it from **Customize**, or it installs for everyone.

**Install for yourself:**

```bash
git clone https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin ~/.cursor/plugins/local/carbone
```

Then run **Developer: Reload Window**.

**Sign in:** from Cursor's MCP settings.

**Update:** for a team, an admin clicks **Refresh** on the marketplace in the Dashboard. For yourself, run `git -C ~/.cursor/plugins/local/carbone pull`, then **Developer: Reload Window**.

### GitHub Copilot

**Install with Copilot CLI:**

```bash
copilot plugin install carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
```

**Install in VS Code:**

1. Turn on the `chat.plugins.enabled` setting.
2. Run **Chat: Install Plugin From Source** from the Command Palette and enter `https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin`.

**Sign in:** in Copilot CLI, run `/mcp auth carbone`, which opens your browser. VS Code asks you when it starts the Carbone server.

**Update:** in Copilot CLI, run `copilot plugin update carbone`. VS Code updates it with your extensions.

### Gemini CLI

**Install:**

```bash
gemini extensions install https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
```

Then restart Gemini CLI.

**Sign in:** your browser opens the first time Carbone is used.

**Update:** run `gemini extensions update carbone`.

### Antigravity

Gemini CLI on the free tier or Google One has been replaced by Antigravity: install Carbone here.

**Install:**

```bash
agy plugin install https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
```

**Sign in:** open **Agent settings → Customizations**, choose **Authenticate** for Carbone and follow the sign-in steps.

**Update:** automatic in the Antigravity app.

### Devin

**Install:**

```bash
devin plugins install carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin
```

**Sign in:** from **Customize → MCPs**, or run `devin mcp login carbone`.

**Update:** run `devin plugins update`.

### Kiro

**Install:**

1. Open the **Powers** panel and click **Add Custom Power**.
2. Choose **Import power from GitHub**, enter `https://github.com/carboneio/carbone-agent-plugin`, then click **Install**.

**Sign in:** Kiro opens your browser when it first connects to Carbone.

**Update:** in the **Powers** panel, select Carbone, click **Check for updates**, then **Install updates**.

## What You Can Ask

Ask your assistant:

```text
Check that Carbone is connected, then list my Carbone templates.
```

```text
Here is my customer data as JSON. Design an invoice template for it
with Carbone, then render it as a PDF.
```

```text
Pull this month's closed deals from HubSpot, design a quote template
in Word with our logo, render one PDF per deal with Carbone, and save
them to our Google Drive.
```

More prompts are on the [MCP page](/documentation/developer/ai/mcp.md#what-you-can-ask).

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| Carbone's tools don't appear | Sign in first: follow the **Sign in** step for your assistant above. Then restart the assistant or reload the window, and start a new conversation. |
| Carbone asks you to sign in again | Your session expired or was disconnected: follow the **Sign in** step for your assistant again. |
| Claude doesn't use the Carbone skill | Turn on **Code execution and file creation** in **Settings → Capabilities**. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner turns it on. |
| You can't install the plugin or add the connector | Your organization restricts them: ask an admin to allow the Carbone plugin. |
| Carbone's tools appear twice | The MCP server was already added by hand: remove that copy and keep the plugin's. |
| Two Carbone skills are listed | Remove the skill you installed earlier, from `carbone.skill` or the [Skills CLI](/documentation/developer/ai/skills.md#installation-skills-cli), and keep the plugin's. |

For sign-in, watermark and rendering issues, see the [MCP troubleshooting](/documentation/developer/ai/mcp.md#troubleshooting).

## Security

The plugin's actions all go through the Carbone MCP server: permissions, approvals and data handling are covered in [Security Best Practices](/documentation/developer/ai/mcp.md#security-best-practices). To report a vulnerability, follow our [Security Policy](/company/security-policy.md#reporting-a-vulnerability).
