Airtable
Official Carbone extension to generate PDF reports and documents from Airtable
Generate PDF documents and reports from Airtable
The official Document Generator extension turns Airtable into a no-code PDF generator. Point it at a table, map your fields, and generate a document from any record. You design the template in the tools you already use — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs — and Carbone merges your Airtable data into it.
Why Airtable users choose Carbone to generate documents:
- Native Airtable extension. Install it from the Marketplace, select a table, map your fields, and generate a document straight from a record — no scripts, no external automation.
- Design templates in the editor you already know — Word, LibreOffice, or Google Docs. Excel and PowerPoint work too, and anyone on the team can edit them without code.
- PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and 100+ formats. Real, editable Office files — not a flattened screenshot of a record.
- Live preview in Carbone Studio before you generate, so you see the exact output.
- Charts, images, barcodes, tables, conditional sections, e-signatures, and e-invoices compliant with Factur-X and ZUGFeRD.

Two ways to generate documents from Airtable
Carbone fits Airtable two ways, depending on whether you want to generate documents by hand or automatically.
1. The official extension, right next to your tables. Install the Document Generator from the Marketplace and it appears as a panel inside your Airtable base, beside your data. Open a record, pick a template, and generate the document on the spot — nothing to automate, nothing to host. This is the fastest path when your team generates documents on demand: an invoice for the order they're looking at, a contract for the client they just added.
2. An automation workflow that pulls your Airtable data. Connect Airtable to n8n, Make, or Bubble, have it read the records you need, and let Carbone generate and deliver the document automatically — on a schedule, or triggered by a new or updated row. This is the path for hands-off Airtable document automation: email a PDF the moment a record is marked Won, batch every row in a view each morning, or push the file to Slack, Google Drive, or back into an Airtable attachment field.

Airtable reports, invoices and documents you can generate
Generate one document per record, or batch a whole view. The data already lives in Airtable — Carbone merges it into your template and returns a finished file.
- Airtable reports: Roll up a table or view into a formatted PDF or XLSX report for stakeholders.
- Invoices and quotes: Turn line-item records into branded PDF invoices, with conditional VAT rows and computed totals.
- Contracts and agreements: Merge client records into a Word contract template with clause libraries and signature blocks.
- Mail merge at scale: Generate a certificate, badge, label, or letter for every record in a view, with barcodes and QR codes.
- Product sheets and proposals: Combine record fields and attached images into a PDF or PPTX deliverable.

Beyond Airtable's Page Designer: real Office templates
Airtable's built-in Page Designer is fine for a quick one-page layout, but it locks the design inside Airtable, has no support for multi-page reports, conditional content, or DOCX and XLSX output, and can't be edited by anyone outside the base.
Carbone takes a different approach: your template is a normal Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file. That means version control in your own tools, multi-page pagination, dynamic tables and charts, and output to PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, CSV, HTML, and images — all from the same record data. The people who own the document own the template.

Design your Airtable templates with AI
You don't have to write Carbone tags by hand. Install the Carbone Skill in ChatGPT, Claude, or your code editor, describe the document you need — *"an invoice with line items, a conditional VAT row, and the total in euros"* — and the assistant writes the Carbone template for you. Drop that template into the Document Generator extension and generate it from your Airtable records.
The AI designs and fixes the template; Carbone renders it the same way every time — something a screenshot-based PDF extension can't offer.
